Why Travel with Sojourn?

Cambodia holds a special place in my heart. I’m a second-generation Cambodian-American, born to parents who escaped the country during the civil war. Despite the unimaginable hardships they endured, Cambodia remains a vital part of who we are. It’s where their story began and by extension, mine too.

Over the years, I’ve returned to Cambodia many times. One thing I often hear from friends is, “I’d love to go, but I don’t speak the language, and I wouldn’t know where to start.” That’s exactly why I created Sojourn!

When you travel with us, we take all the guesswork and stress out of planning. We’ve already done the hard work, sourcing the best places to stay, eat, and explore, so you can fully immerse yourself in the experience without worrying about logistics.

We’ll be your built-in translators and cultural guides. We’ll help you order food, interact with locals, and maybe even teach you a little Khmer along the way! We also know the dos and don’ts of traveling in Cambodia. I’ve learned from experience, I got really sick during a solo trip at 18, and now I know how to keep travelers safe, comfortable, and healthy.

From transportation and accommodations to curated activities and meals, we handle every detail! Even before the trip, we’ve got you covered. We’ll set up a group chat where you can ask questions, get travel tips, and connect with your fellow travelers. We’ll offer guidance on booking your flights, provide a suggested packing list, share tips on what to expect, and host a pre-trip Zoom call to go over everything together.

Once we’re in Cambodia, we’ll continue to support you, helping exchange money, setting up SIM cards, translating, taking photos, and navigating every experience, big or small.

We’re here to make sure your journey is smooth and unforgettable. so you can relax and enjoy the journey. Whether it’s your first time abroad or you’re a seasoned traveler, you’ll never feel lost or alone.

With Sojourn, you don’t just visit Cambodia,
you experience it like family!

Let my family and I show you why Cambodia is so special to us!

Trip Itinerary:
This is our tentative itinerary and is subject to change. With international travel, flexibility is key! While we’ve carefully designed each day to give you the best experience possible, occasional adjustments may be needed due to weather, travel logistics, or unexpected local events. Rest assured, any changes will be made with your comfort, safety, and enjoyment in mind.

Day one/January 30th:
Kick off your journey in Phnom Penh with a warm Cambodian welcome. After settling in, we’ll gather for a traditional Apsara dance performance and welcome dinner, your first taste of Khmer culture, cuisine, and connection with the group.

Day Two/January 31st:
Take a ferry to Silk Island and step into a slower pace of life. Ride on the back of Vespas with local guides as we weave through the countryside, passing rice fields, farming villages, and local markets. Visit a traditional silk weaving home and see the process from cocoon to fabric, then join a hands-on Cambodian cooking class. We’ll return to Phnom Penh in the afternoon, and the evening is yours to explore, relax, or enjoy the city however you’d like.

Day Three/February 1st:
We’ll travel by private bus to Siem Reap, taking in the changing landscapes along the way. Step into history at Ta Prohm, where massive tree roots wrap around ancient stone ruins in one of Cambodia’s most iconic temple sites. That evening, we’ll experience Phare, The Cambodian Circus, a powerful and creative performance blending storytelling, acrobatics, and live music.

Day Four/February 2nd:
Walk through the ancient city of Angkor Thom and stand face-to-face with the serene stone faces of Bayon Temple. Later, journey to Tonlé Sap Lake and visit a traditional floating village, where homes, schools, and daily life exist entirely on the water. Cruise by private boat past stilted homes, local fisheries, and flooded mangroves, with the option to take a smaller boat deeper into the forest. End the day on the open lake, watching the sunset over one of Cambodia’s most unique landscapes.

Day Five/February 3rd:
Enjoy a slow, flexible morning, sleep in, relax by the pool, book a spa treatment (optional), wander through town, explore Siem Reap your way. In the afternoon, we’ll visit APOPO and learn about the incredible “Hero Rats” trained to detect landmines. Later choose your experience: a sunset hot air balloon ride over Siem Reap, or a round of golf at Angkor Golf Resort, one of Cambodia’s top-rated courses, internationally recognized for its pristine conditions and world-class design.

Day Six/February 4th:
Wake before dawn for a truly unforgettable moment, sunrise at Angkor Wat. Watching the sky light up behind the world’s largest temple is something that stays with you long after the trip ends. Later, we’ll visit an elephant sanctuary, where you’ll walk alongside, feed, and connect with these gentle animals in a peaceful, natural setting. You’ll also have the chance to help cool them down with a mud bath and rinse them off in the river, one of the most meaningful moments of the trip.

Day Seven/February 5th:
Today we trade temples for the coast. After a short flight to Sihanoukville, we’ll take a ferry to Koh Rong Sanloem, an island paradise. Think white sand beaches, clear turquoise water, and a slower pace of life. We’ll end the evening with a beachside fire show under the stars.

Day Eight/February 6th:
A full free day to enjoy island life your way. Relax on the beach, snorkel, kayak, explore, or simply do nothing at all. You can also rent 4-wheelers to explore the island and discover hidden beaches and ancient ruins along the way. At night, we'll go on a boat ride and swim in bioluminescent plankton, tiny glowing organisms that light up the water, creating a surreal, magical experience.

Day Nine/February 7th:
We’ll ferry back to the mainland and head to the laid-back riverside town of Kampot. Spend the evening wandering through charming streets filled with cafés, shops, and local life, this hidden gem offers a slower, more relaxed side of Cambodia.

Day Ten/February 8th:
Start the morning with an adventure at Climbodia, exploring stunning cave systems and natural formations carved deep into the Cambodian landscape. In the evening, we’ll visit La Plantation for a sunset tour of the pepper farm, learning how Cambodia’s world-famous Kampot pepper is grown, followed by a farm-to-table dinner as the sun sets over the fields.

Day Eleven/February 9th:
We’ll begin our final day together with a drive back to Phnom Penh, taking in the last moments of the journey and everything we’ve experienced as a group. From there, we’ll transfer you to the airport for your flight home, unless you’ve chosen to stay longer and continue exploring Cambodia independently.

Departure Note:

If you plan to fly out this day, please schedule your flight no earlier than 3:00 PM.

     Travel Requirements
    & Other Information:
  • To join us on this unforgettable journey, you'll need a valid passport. Be sure to check the expiration date, your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended departure date, which is February 9th, 2027 (unless you choose to extend your trip independently after the group portion ends).

  • A visa is required to enter Cambodia, but don’t worry, it’s super easy to obtain. You can get one upon arrival at the airport, or apply for an eVisa in advance [here].

  • While Cambodia no longer requires proof of COVID-19 vaccination or testing, other vaccinations such as Typhoid, Hepatitis A & B, and Yellow Fever are recommended. You can view a full list of suggested vaccinations [here].

  • Our itinerary is moderately active and includes a good amount of walking, along with experiences such as caving and the opportunity to swim in bioluminescent waters, so please make sure you’re physically comfortable with that. At Sojourn, we encourage guests to step outside their comfort zones and fully embrace new experiences. That said, your comfort always comes first, most activities are optional, and we’re happy to accommodate if there’s anything you’d prefer to skip.

  • In addition to walking, we’ll be traveling by bus between cities, riding on Vespas with local guides, taking a hot air balloon ride, a domestic flight, and enjoying multiple boat rides. If you are prone to motion sickness, we recommend bringing any necessary medications to stay comfortable.

  • Because we’ll be moving from one hotel to another throughout the trip, we kindly ask that everyone packs light, one suitcase and one personal bag only. This helps ensure comfort during travel and respects the limited space on our transportation. Please only bring what you can comfortably carry yourself. One of our resort stays is only accessible by ferry, so you’ll need to manage your own luggage during transitions.

  • We’ll also be taking a domestic flight during the trip. The airline allows: One personal bag (max 7 kg)  and one checked bag (max 23 kg)  If your luggage exceeds these limits, you’ll be responsible for any oversize or extra baggage fees that apply.  We’ll send a helpful packing list before the trip to make things easy!

  • February is one of the best months to visit Cambodia, with warm and pleasant weather averaging between 70–90°F. It’s the dry season, so you can expect lots of sunshine, perfect for exploring! That said, we’ll be spending a lot of time outdoors, so please come prepared: Bring sunblock, a hat, and breathable clothing. Stay hydrated, we’ll have a cooler stocked with cold water on the bus at all times.

  • Above all, we ask that you arrive with a sense of respect for those around you, a willingness to be present and on time, and an openness to fully embrace the beauty and adventure Cambodia has to offer. Bring your curiosity, positive energy, and a spirit of discovery.
